The Art of the Possible

This is a really powerful activity to do with staff, students and your digital leadership team.  A good question to ask is:

How can our use of technology reinforce and enhance each of our core educational themes? 

With each theme, we have used ‘post-its’ to identify opportunities for technology to enhance and enrich our school’s vision and values.  These may not all be used in the final vision statement – it is important to keep options open and challenge us to live in ‘the art of the possible’, where all ideas are powerful and useful. The result is shown below.

We have used different colours of boxes to explore each theme and area of possibility.  When you do this, it may be the case that one-way forward supports multiple themes.  This is a good place to start as one focus area will have multiple layers of impact.

Activity

Initially explore this activity yourself.  Then we would highly recommend doing it with different groups so that the vision is collaboratively developed and owned.

Based on the themes you have identified from your own school vision:

• Use a different colour for each them – or use post-it notes of different colours.
• Record any ways in which you could use technology to meet that educational vision. 
• It is important here to keep the mind open – nothing is a bad idea, and everything should be equally welcomed as it may lead to different pathways of thinking and development.
