Technology Integration Matrix (TIM)

9th January 2024

The Technology Integration Matrix is another approach to support the implementation of technology in schools and integrate it with teaching approaches in the classroom. Similar to the SAMR model, clear distinct phases make up the TIM approach. These are outlined below:

Entry: In the entry phase teachers begin to use technology as tools to deliver curriculum content to students.

Adoption: In the adoption phase teachers direct students in the conventional and procedural use of technology.

Adaptation: In the adaptation phase the teacher facilitates the students exploration and independent use of technology.

Infusion: In the infusion phase the dynamic changes with the teacher providing the learning context and students choosing the tools through which to share their learning.

Transformation: In the transformation phase the teacher encourages the innovative use of technology to facilitate a range of high order learning activities that may not otherwise be possible without the use of technology.

The diagram below shows several key foci change through the development of the TIM model, including engagement, collaboration, constructive and authentic use of technology, and goal-directed learning.
